President’s Report: March 2022

Dear Members,

I hope that all of you are enjoying the beautiful weather this season. We are in the midst of our busiest time of the year, and all is well. Daily launches and sales are at a 16-year high, and we have launched over 4000 boats!!! Our first quarter thru March 18 has produced solid financial results from every division of the club operation. Our food and beverage sales are up even though staff shortages have forced us to temporarily close 1 night a week. Staff shortages remain critical throughout Southwest Florida. Few businesses have been unaffected by this unprecedented labor shortage. We are trying everything that we can to hire additional qualified personnel. Our food and beverage division is operating with only 2 bartenders/servers along with our outstanding Food and Beverage manager Adrian Bonetta. I thank you all for the messages of support and understanding that we have received from our members.

One of the most important aspects of running a successful marina operation is having an effective Board of Directors. Your Board of Directors are extremely dedicated to keeping our club a 5 Star marina with great service and value for our members. We want to keep our facility not only a great place to store your boat and entertain your family, but a great investment as well. We work many hours a week for no compensation. We do it because we love our club and realize how quickly things can unravel without competent management and oversight. We are fortunate to have two outstanding new Board of Directors joining us.

Fred Walter and Randy Manning are both very successful businessmen who are now retired and will be a great asset to the Board. They are owners of multiple boat slips and are long time owners at SHYC. They both live a few steps from the marina, Fred at Punta Rassa and Randy at Sanibel Harbour Tower. Fred was an owner of multiple hotels and Randy owned a large property management company. They will join me, Nick Amelio and Dr. Gary Aspinwall and will work to keep Sanibel Harbour Yacht Club the beautiful and well managed 5 Star Yacht Club that we are all proud of!

The Board Members are available at any time to speak with you and assist in any manner necessary.

MARCH MEMBER ACTIVITIES

3/24 – ITALIAN FEAST ALL YOU CAN EAT GOURMET BUFFET.

Our Italian buffet is the most popular buffet that we have ever had at the club. Those of you who have attended can attest to that. The price of $19.99 is a great buy and it is all you can eat!
Please join us and come hungry!!!

3/31 – ANNUAL MEMBERS MEETING 5:30 IN THE OWNER’S LOUNGE, 4th floor.

4/7 – SANIBEL SING-A-LONG KAROAKE.

Back by popular demand! Our final Sanibel Sing-A-Long Karaoke of the season. This is our 50’s sock hop. Enjoy the music that we all grew up with! Games and great prizes all night long. 50’s dress up optional but a good time guaranteed to all.

SHYC FUN-RUN MEMBER CRUISES

We had 3 Fun Run member cruises planned this season and the weather co-operated enough for two of them to be held. It is getting more difficult to find new locations that are easily accessible and can handle a large number of boats. However, we did have two excellent locations and the members who attended had a nice time. Thanks to SHYC owner Tim McGowan for his hospitality in hosting our March event at the Green Flash, his beautiful restaurant in Captiva. Further thanks to my friend Zak Kearns who hosted the February event at his Boat House Restaurant in Cape Coral.

Depending on member interest we may do a trip to the Bay Front Bistro on Fort Myers Beach in mid-April. We took a group there 2 years ago year and had a great time. Before I plan this, I need to poll the membership to assess the interest level in such a trip. I would appreciate if you are interested to please drop me an email.

FEBRUARY EMPLOYEE OF THE MONTH

Our Employee of the month for February was Ryan Kowalczyk Ryan is one of our chefs and usually works the day shift for breakfast and lunch as well as prepping for dinner. He is a terrific employee who is a talented chef and is both creative in his work and a loyal employee. Congratulations, Ryan, on receiving this well-deserved acknowledgement!
All Employees of the Month are eligible for our coveted Employee of the Year Awards in December.
Hope to see you at the member events in March and April. I am always available to assist you in any matter that needs attention. Again, thank you all for your great support.

Sincerely,
Peter Mazzagatti, President
