President’s Report: September 2024

Dear Members,

I have some great news to share with you this month!

The construction is progressing smoothly, and the crew is moving at a great pace as we approach the final touches. All four walls are up, with only some trim work remaining. The crews are finishing the trim on the cupolas and will be installing all the louvers soon. The cupola color will be matched on the clubhouse roof. The final stage will be siding on the annex and clubhouse, and this should move quickly. We’re excited to have this building 100% completed soon, and we’ve received excellent feedback from the members on the color selections. We have attached some photos to the report for your review.

After two years of Velocity Risk Insurance Company playing dodge ball with us, the Board of Directors will soon enter mediation regarding the wind insurance dispute. We are hopeful for a resolution that will allow us to cover the remaining costs of our recovery efforts. Once we have the settlement behind us, we’ll prepare a financial summary detailing all costs and remaining debt, so the membership will have full visibility of our financial situation.

Afterward, we’ll be able to close this horrible two-year chapter. To celebrate, we’re planning a huge Christmas party for all owners, where we’ll show off and celebrate our newly revamped facility. It will be great to have everyone together again! The long, hot summer with record high temperatures almost every day is hopefully going to be ending in the next six weeks. They were particularly hard on our employees who worked in conditions where the heat index was over 100 degrees on most days. All of our summer projects were performed by our staff and are nearly complete. Included in these projects was the painting of our clubhouse in colors to match our storage barns new siding.

August Employee of The Month

Our SHYC August Employee of the Month was Mark Coates. Mark is a long-term employee and former Employee of the Year award winner who does a terrific job in all aspects of his duties.

Congratulations Mark and thank you for your excellent service.

Extended bar and food service hours during the Summer

Our bar and restaurant hours throughout the summer season will continue until November when they will be extended. The owners’ lounge will be open until 8 PM on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday for your enjoyment. Once again, I want to thank the members who have patronized the bar and restaurant since our re-opening. However, we still need more patronage from our members and lessees. The food service that we offer at SHYC puts us in very favorable position and I believe adds value to your slips. Our club has a fantastic location that is one of the best if not the best location in SW Florida. We offer our members, lessees and guests excellent service for your boating pleasure, valet parking, top level on premises management, a modern well-maintained facility, a cocktail lounge and restaurant, a private room that is available for member parties and special events.

Your Board of Directors and my mission is to offer all of our members and their guests a 5 Star Experience each time you visit the club. All aspects of club operation are vital to us. If your experience in our marina boat service, food service, valet, personnel, or any facet of our club operation fails to meet your expectations, or if it is exceptional, please let me know. Our Board of Directors and I are always available to help members in any way possible. Thank you for your continued support and encouragement. We couldn’t do it without you!

Sincerely,

Peter Mazzagatti, President
